Polyhymnia
You are the First there is no doubt!
You make the prayers and they always sound
Before a blessing is conceded
You preside the rites
Without you no God could be praised
Nor Muses invoked
No poet would sing
No people would vote
All of the Muses inspire us to give voice
Only you can teach when to silence
You are the one who separates the good
From what is bad for the Hymn
And covers the evil with your dress
For all your creations should last long
You mistress, rule over the meaning of words!
See now if I know how you manifest
All poems begin with a plea to the Muse
There is no other way one can sing
But the bard has to know her by name
How could she attend with her blessings
And inspire his tune if she is not called?
But once the Muse hears her name resound
Remind to spell it right and complete
Doesn´t matter how busy she is,
And a Goddess of art enjoys work,
She will stop what she is doing,
Look with attention and listen
Then comes the second part:
Prove you know her ways in profound
With an example of how in true life she performs
Wisdom is her attribute but she can be also vein
And will inspire a poet only if he won´t make her shame
Describe her with an image that everyone knows
Don´t try to be cult for the Muses are learnt
And simplicity is the quality that amuses most
Too many measures and drives off the quest
Would steal the attention and make a Muse mad
As the mother preparing her daughter´s wedding
Wants everyone to be pleased with her charm
For this is the prize of the ceremony
But at the moment she is to decide how to attach
The white veil that covers her face to the gown
Gives the Bride one and single advice:
Just have in mind the delight of the Groom
Such is the way you think and act
And such you expect from the poet´s third task
When he finally requests you to sing
That he come unadvised with the tie you like most
So sing to us, Muse, the virgin of the veil,
And reveal the dark side of politics
Open wide our eyes to see when they lie
When they cheat with cheap advertisements
When they subvert questions sublime
Show us who is saying the truth in the City
The County, the State and the Union
Show us who is fake who is true at the UNO
Be our guide and make us think
Once, twice, thrice before saying,
And a fourth time make us think before voting
But after the mouth was opened for the tongue to tone
And the flute of the throat gave wings to the words
Or the hand of the arm has loosened the fingers
Allowing the vote to fall in the urn, teach us to
Regret Not!
